Marybeth Rogers has it all—a great husband, two grown sons, and a teaching job she loves.

She’s about to leave it all behind.

When Marybeth tells her husband she needs a short sabbatical from their marriage, he doesn’t understand. Why won’t she tell him where she’s going? But Marybeth can’t tell him—not yet. She’s on a journey to unbury a secret from her past, and is willing to risk all of her current happiness to do it.

Years ago, Marybeth had a different name and a different identity. She also had a daughter fathered by the scion of a major crime family. Young and scared and out of options, she gave up the baby for adoption and went into hiding. But now that it’s finally safe to search for her daughter, will it be too late?

We Thought We Knew You is an emotionally rich story about family, the burden of the past, and the lengths we’ll go to protect those we love the most.

I’m sad. It’s over.
What a compelling story! What compelling, believable characters! I’ve always loved crime/mystery novels. I love this one even more because of the strong female characters. Instead of the “intrepid male detective” or the “Off balance private eye living out of his car which can’t decide what’s worse: the stale stench of cigarettes or the carpet comprised primarily of litter”, this story centers on a cast of strong, intelligent women. Women who balance careers and family not because they are perfect; but because they are smart, determined and have learned to fight their battles and their demons And when to trust, when to let go, when to hold on.

Gripping story from beginning to end.
I was hooked from the moment I started this book. I read it all the way through on a dreary Sunday. I was intrigued and entertained by the likable relatable main character. I rooted for her despite all of the obstacles she had to overcome. I highly recommend this book. It will give you hours of entertainment. I look forward to another book by this author.
